Perfection

The brilliantly witty folks at BarelyPolitical have done it again. The latest video from the Philly-based team that did the SNL spoof "Box in a Box," followed by the "I've Got A Crush On Obama" video, along with the continuing saga of Giuliani Girl and the supporting- the-troops number "I Like A Boy," has moved into a whole new shtick.

As Garling Gauge explained, in Ode to “Perfected Jew” Ann Coulter:

In response to Republican author Ann Coulter’s recent statement that Christians are “Perfected” Jews, the Barely Political team have added a faux-ode to their increasing repertoire of popular online faux-political videos.
Rachel Sklar of Huffington Post, in Perfected: The Ann Coulter Song (And The Barely Political Business Model), notes that "Singer/songwriter [and Philly girl] Leah Kaufmann, . . . steps out from behind the mike to get in front of the camera, for the first time." She adds:
The song itself definitely follows the Barely Political template of sardonic punchlines ('She's got the hottest Adam's apple at the Republican conventions') and pop-culture observations ('Wanna come over later and watch 'Seinfeld' together?' with a picture of Michael Richards), but it's got a specific target this time, and good-natured spoofery with zingers is ratcheted up with some sharper twists of the knife — the most effective of which is letting Coulter be Coulter in the form of voice-overs and spliced-in footage mixed into the song. It's incredibly effective to build up through Coulter's various verbal affronts to decency right up to what remains her piece de resistance, her sliming of 9/11 widows, leading into Kaufman's final breathy 'Just like Ann Coulter..' as the guitar strums and fades out.
In trying to figure out the best way to respond to the ugliness that is Ann Coulter (and her ilk), I recently said -- let's make fun of them. See Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Silence. This was just what I was looking for.

As much as I like politics, and as important as many of the issues that face us are, I still like to keep a sense of humor about it all. That's why I like Jon Stewart, Bill Maher & Stephen Colbert.

The latest entree into this "hallowed" field is the "Perfected: The Ann Coulter Song" video.

I began a post on humorous sites such as "Barely Political" in August that I never got around to finishing. According to The Hilarious Road to 2008 Wired:
Other media corporations are also experimenting with online political humor video sites, as Sklar points out. They include HBO/AOL's "This Just In," Comedy Central's "Indecision 2008," The Onion's "Onion News Network," and The Huffington Post's own 23/6.

Thus the election of 2008, which promises to be one of the most pivotal in both US and world history, may also end up as one of the funniest, and most entertaining ever.

Definitely check out those sites. Much laughter promised.

UPDATE (11/4): For more on the Philly angle of Barely Political crew, see The woman behind Obamagirl revealed, from Dan Rubin, who occasional stills posts at his Bling Blog. The Inquirer's business blog also notes that Barely Political website was recently sold, Philly's "Obama Girl" Playboy-babe site is sold, but that offices will remain in Philly.

The Barely Political team is great. Ben Relles emailed me after I gave a less than stellar critique of their pro-military video, but the rest of them are fun and fantastic.

Thanks for the Garling Gauge plug, I've added you to the Garling Gauge blogroll.

Cheers.
