He's Coming

Anyone who knows me (or reads this blog regularly) knows that I'm a big fan of Jon Stewart. Poor Jon Stewart, he not only appeals to the coveted 18 - 30 year old crowd, but he apparently also is a favorite of middle-aged women, who think he's cute. See, e.g., The Boys are Back in Town.

Well, he's coming to Philly, at the Tower Theater on April 27th and, of course, I'm going. I would like to see him in a stand-up comedic role, rather than his usual Daily Show persona. My husband is not as enthused about Jon, so I'm going with my law partner.

For an interesting interview of Stewart, from June of 2006, see the video at TV Land, Sit Down Comedy with David Steinberg.

Dan Kurtzman, who writes a Political Humor column at About.com, has details of his career, Jon Stewart. See also, Profile of Jon Stewart, Political Comedian.

I was so impressed by how he resisted getting stuck on any one specific example of John Bolton proving himself to be a complete idiot during that interview a couple weeks ago.

When Bolton told Stewart that he was wrong historically by saying Lincoln gathered political opponents and rivals in his cabinet...I leaped out of my chair, scared the cat half to death.

Doris Kearns Goodwin's book 'Team of Rivals' was one of the most engrossing historical works I'd ever laid eyes on. If these truly rich portions of our young republic's history are to be ignored entirely by stupid bullies like Bolton, then there are most likely odds in a cosmic casino somewhere in favor of our not making it as long as we already have.

To have been an official at that level for so many years, yet be completely uninterested in facts regarding the fantastic story of our coming to be...how can any person like that claim patriotism as a virtue?

I think that is a lot more dangerous of a thing than someone burning a flag!
